Jacking with Dora
December 26, 2009 | Category: Students, Stuff you should steal, Videos
So, I grabbed a girl from my youth group and some Jeff Foxworthy redneck vocab, and brought Dora to the south. Redneck style.
This video actually took surprising very little time to put together, so I’ll lay it out for ya so if you have video editing software (which is a huge part of my ministry), you can make your own Dora, Elmo, Superfriends whatever.
Step 1. Finding the footage
This is truthfully the most difficult part of your process. You have to actually watch in my case Dora. We’re looking for clips we can use. For my purposes I didn’t need Dora on adventure, which is 90% of what she does so it was a little tricky, so your looking for close ups of her and Boots. You want enough so that it doesn’t look like the same clips over and over again. When you’ve found your Dora library, save them where you’ll find them.
Step 2. Getting a script and an order
I put together basically what words I wanted Dorad to explain and in what order. Then we sorta made up the phrasing as we went. You want to try and make your new dialog line up syllable and cadence with the mouth of whoever your voiceing over.
Step 3. Cut the original audio and dub your new voices.
I’m ghetto, and I just use a cheapo Walmart cpu microphone for my editting. I’d tell my actors/actresses what to say and then they’d talk into the mic.
Step 4. Line up the new audio with the old.
You want to try and sync up as best as you can the new audio with the mouth of the character. It doesn’t have to be perfect, we’re not shooting for a golden globe just some laughs on Wednesday night, so long as it doesn’t look like a bad japanese movie. Unless of course thats what your going for.
Step 5. Drop the text over anything existing already
This is an optional step depending on what type of video your after, but I used the big words to hide the map Dora was using to get to the circus (LOL). Plus it gave a visual of what word we were learning.
Step 6. Finish rendering or completing the file and prepare for the funnies!
It’s that simple. If your going thats not simple, or I don’t have any video software. Google youtube downloader for free, and steal Dora. You have my permission. =)
